Vidhan Bhawan ((ヒンディー語:विधान भवन)) (a.k.a. Vidhan Sabha Bhawan and Assembly House) is the house of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature (both houses, upper & lower), located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Built in 1928, the building was originally called the "Council House" and holds sitting of the legislature of the state of Uttar Pradesh since 1937 along with housing other important offices of Uttar Pradesh Government. ==History== In early 20th century, the capital of the state of Uttar Pradesh used to be Allahabad. In 1922, decision was taken to shift the capital from Allahabad to Lucknow and to construct a building in Lucknow to house the Assembly Constituency. On 15 December 1922, then Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler laid the foundation of the Vidhan Bhawan.〔 Building's architecture was done by Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob and Heera Singh. Blueprint of the building was drawn by Heera Singh and the construction was monitored by Spencer Harcourt Butler.〔 The building was completed in little over five years at a cost of (1922 cost not adjusted for inflation) and was inaugurated on 21 February 1928.〔〔〔
